Already at the end of the 19th century, the Japanese, who until then had concentrated exclusively on the production of sake and shochu and specialized in experimenting with the whisky-typical ingredients, although initially with little success. Finally Shinjiro Torii opened the first distillery in Yamazaki in 1923. For the construction he engaged Mastaka Taketsuru, who had extensive knowledge in chemistry and the production of whisky. The cooperation of the two men ended after a few years due to numerous differences. Taketsuru eventually founded his own company, Nippon Kaju KK, which has produced some of the most popular and high-quality whiskys to date, such as the Yoichi 20 years old or the Hibiki Blend 30 years old. But Shinjiro Toriis distillery remained on course for success. The Sasanokawa Whisky is especially for beginners the ideal whisky and convinced whisky fans worldwide with its incomparably mild and gentle taste.
