The story of Nikka Whisky

The success story of Nikka Whisky began in 1918. Masataka Taketsuru went on a trip to Scotland to study and get to know the art of whisky making. Originally run by the family business of a sake brewery, Taketsuru was magically attracted to whisky making, so in 1920, for the first time, he produced this delicious drink in Japan. In 1934, he built the first distillery in Hokkaido, which brewed a whisky with an expressive malt and a pronounced body. Over the next few years, further distilleries were founded, which, thanks to their extraordinary location, ensured excellent storage.

Various taste variations of the delicious whisky

Nikka Whisky is characterized by its delicious taste. Due to the tropical and warm weather in Japan, the ripening process of Nikka Whisky is much faster and leaves a particularly mild taste at the end. Half of the distilleries mainly deal with the production of malt whisky and create different variations in taste. The other half is specialized in the distillation of Grain Whisky. The Nikka Whisky From The Barrel is an award-winning blend that harmoniously blends malt and grain. The result is a combination of vanilla, cherry and a pleasant spiciness, which ensures a slightly sweet taste. This pleasant sweetness can also be found in the Nikka Pure Malt Black, which consists of many berries, dark chocolate and a hint of oak. The light oak aroma is also contained in the Nikka Pure Malt Red, which combines with the fruity note of pineapple and the freshness of an apple. Coffee lovers, on the other hand, will be delighted with the Nikka Single Coffey Malt, as this Nikka Whisky is made from 100 percent malted barley mash and is also baked in a Coffey Still. But not only the scent of coffee is in the air, even a hint of banana, coconut, honey and dry grass provide a caress of the senses. In addition to the varieties already mentioned, there is a much larger assortment, which helps to pamper the taste buds and simply enjoy the taste of the unique Nikka whisky.

Nikka whisky for a taste sensation

Each country certainly has its own tradition and preferences in terms of its drinks. The Nikka Whisky, on the other hand, has managed to establish itself firmly not only in Japan but also worldwide. At the beginning, bottlings were imported from Ireland or Scotland, but over the years this too has been adopted by Japan itself. The individual varieties of the Nikka Whisky have managed by an excellent quality and quantity to put themselves at the top of world-famous whisky varieties. The different flavor variations underline the uniqueness of Nikka Whisky and express in a special way the mouthfeel.

Summary

Nikka Whisky Distilling Co.Ltd. (Nippon Kaju) was founded in 1934 by Masataka Taketsuru after leaving the Yamazaki distillery as manager that same year. 1954 takes over the ASAHI Breweries Co.Ltd. 50% stake in Nikka and buys the remaining 50% stake in 2001.

Today, Nikka owns the two distilleries Yochi in Hokkaido and Miyagikyo in the north of Honshu, as well as the Ben Nevis Distillery in Scotland.
