Gin
Gin from Japan is becoming a sustainable trend
Japan is not normally known for its long tradition of gin. Rice wine ("sake") or the somewhat stronger brandy "shochu" set the tone here. Nevertheless, the Far East is gradually opening up. Japan is delighting with its own versions of popular spirits. In addition to various whiskeys, Japanese gin is also playing an increasingly important role. With local botanicals and careful manufacturing processes, established brands such as Suntory and Nikka are bringing a breath of fresh air to this segment.
Selected ingredients make the difference
Gin connoisseurs know that it is the various aromas of juniper, anise, lavender, orange, rosemary and many other ingredients that make the high-proof spirit interesting. This has of course not escaped the attention of the producers of gin from Japan. In order to stand out from the existing market, Japanese gin deliberately uses fewer ingredients. Regional spices such as cherry blossom, yuzu or sacho pepper are used as a matter of course. When it comes to bitter aromas, Japanese gin can boast components from sake production. Koji spores, for example, provide a slightly bitter finish when tasting. This guarantees an exotic taste experience that introduces you to a new experience. It is easy to clearly taste the botanicals. Riesling and potato sochu (rice or potato spirit) are also occasionally used as the base alcohol in gin from Japan. This also creates a new interaction.
Mild - even with high alcohol content
As the basis for many cocktails and the iconic long drink "gin and tonic", the classic has long been an indispensable part of every bar. In recent years, the spirit has become very popular again and has experienced a real boom. Gin also looks good when drunk neat. Provided, of course, that you have an impeccably processed product in front of you. And this is exactly where Japanese gin wants to score points. Thanks to the selected and natural aromas, the Far Eastern variant offers a particularly mild expression. Would you like to extend the gin from Japan with a delicious tonic? Then a suitable filler should be selected. Established cocktails also become a new experience thanks to the careful composition.
The market is developing rapidly
Only four years ago, gin from Japan was nowhere to be found. Now, various distilleries are showing what new possibilities are opening up in this area. Japanese gin is building up its following with great products, a new taste experience and good quality. It is a useful addition to any range and offers you an interesting alternative to long-established varieties.
