White Oak Akashi Rarities
White Oak Akashi Rarities – Maritime Treasures from Japan's Oldest Licensed Distillery
The White Oak Distillery (Eigashima Shuzo) in the city of Akashi holds a special place in history: it possesses the oldest official license to produce whisky in Japan, granted back in 1919. In our Akashi Rarities category, we present the most exclusive bottlings from this artisanal distillery, which captivates with its location directly on the Japanese Inland Sea and its deep roots in the sake tradition.
What makes Akashi special is its seasonal production: As the company is originally a traditional sake and shochu producer, whisky is only distilled during the spring and summer months. The artisanal direction is often in the hands of a toji (sake brewmaster) , which is also reflected in the use of special yeast starters ( shubo ). Thanks to the mild, maritime climate with high average temperatures, the whisky matures significantly faster in Akashi than in Scotland, giving it remarkable depth even at a young age.
Among the sought-after rarities are:
- Akashi 14 & 15 Years Old: These limited bottlings represent the pinnacle of our stock. The 15-year-old, in particular, which was matured in casks made from rare Japanese Konara oak , is a true collector's item.
- Exclusive wine finishes: Through its own winery in Yamanashi, White Oak successfully experiments with white and red wine barrels, as with the Akashi 14 Years Old White Wine Finish .
- Rare single cask bottlings: Strictly limited editions for connoisseurs, such as those from the independent bottler Blackadder (only 330 bottles worldwide) or the artistic series from Gaiaflow (Kiri and Sakura).
- Special bottlings: Rarities for legendary institutions like the Zoetrope Bar in Tokyo.
Experience the perfect fusion of Japanese brewing tradition and the salty influences of the sea with Akashi's rare whiskies. Secure a piece of liquid history from one of Japan's smallest and most distinctive distilleries at Jwhisky.
