Nikka Rarities
Nikka Rarities – Exclusive Milestones of Japanese Whisky History
Nikka Whisky, founded by the legendary "Father of Japanese Whisky," Masataka Taketsuru , embodies the pioneering spirit of Japan like few other brands. In our Nikka Rarities category, we present liquid treasures that go far beyond the standard range and represent the pinnacle of Japanese distillation.
A pivotal turning point for collectors was the so-called "Nikka Shock" in 2015 : Due to explosive global demand and dwindling stocks, Nikka was forced to discontinue almost all of its age-stated single malts – including the iconic Yoichi 10, 12, 15, and 20 bottlings, as well as the floral Miyagikyo 10, 12, and 15. These bottles are now highly sought-after rarities that perfectly capture the powerful, coal-fired character of the Yoichi distillery in Hokkaido or the elegance of the Miyagikyo distillery in Sendai.
Among the absolute highlights of the rarities are:
- The Nikka 40 Years Old: A masterpiece for the company's 80th anniversary, uniting distillates from 1945 (Yoichi) and 1969 (Miyagikyo) – a liquid legacy of past and future.
- Taketsuru 25 Years Old: A multi-award-winning Pure Malt, prized for its exceptional complexity, floral freshness and notes of ripe apples and hay.
- Single Casks: Strictly limited bottlings, often bottled only for the Japanese market or specialized partners such as the Scotch Malt Whisky Society , showcasing the pure essence of a single cask.
- Historical decanters: Treasures such as the Tsuru in the ornate Noritake porcelain decanter, the last work on which Masataka Taketsuru personally collaborated.
Discover these rare bottlings at Jwhisky, which are sought after by connoisseurs worldwide not only for their taste but also for their historical value.
