Chichibu Whisky - product for spoiled connoisseurs

Today, Japanese whisky is one of the world's top players when it comes to exquisite whisky taste and special creations of this drink. The Chichibu distillery was originally founded in the city of Hanyu. In 2008, Ichiro Akuto, the grandson of the original founder, reopened the Chichibu Whiskey brewery in Saitama Prefecture. Saitama is even known to many people in Germany, as some of the 2002 World Cup matches were played here. In Japan's youngest city of a million people, Ichiro Akuto's distillery was completely rebuilt. The old stills of the traditional distillery for Chichibu whisky remained in operation, however. Three years after the new establishment, in 2011, the first Chichibu whisky was launched on the market. This Chichibu the First was completely sold out after a very short time. The manufacturer's bottlings are still strictly limited. The capacity of the distillery is still manageable with an annual production of 90,000 liters. The distillery has specialized entirely in single malt whiskeys. The malt for Chichibu Whiskey is imported from the British malthouse Simson and a German malthouse. All variations of Chichibu Whiskey have now secured an excellent reputation on the market for quality whiskey.

Summary

秩父蒸留所

The CHICHIBU distillery was reopened in 2008 by Ichiro Akuto, the grandson of the founder of the first CHICHIBU (Hanyu) distillery, in the Japanese prefecture of Saitama. The distillery was completely rebuilt, but the old stills from the old distillery are still used.

In 2011, the first single malt since the reopening was launched under the name CHICHIBU THE FIRST and was sold out within a short time. Since the distillery capacity is quite small at 90,000 liters per year, many bottlings are strictly limited and therefore rare and difficult to obtain.

The distillery produces exclusively single malt whiskies with imported malt from the British malthouse Simpson and partly from a German malthouse and the water of the nearby Arakana River

Technical information about the CHCHIBU distillery:

  • Mash tuns: 1x 2,000 liters made of stainless steel
  • Fermentation tanks: 5x 3,000 liters made of Japanese oak (Mizunara)
  • Stills: 1 “Wash Still” with 2,000 litres capacity and a “Spirit Still” with 2,000 litres capacity heated by steam
  • Annual burning capacity: 90,000 liters
